This session on cybersecurity emerging issues will take place at ITU Headquarters (ITU Montbrillant building, Room H) in Geneva, Switzerland on Tuesday, 9 October 2018, from 09:30 to 12:30 hours after the ITU-D Study Group 2 Question 3/2 meeting on Monday, 8 October 2018 dedicated to “Securing information and communication networks: Best practices for developing a culture of cybersecurity”.

Background information

The session contributes to the implementation of the Question 3/2 workplan and is addressed to representatives of ministries, regulators, telecom operators, universities and general education institutions, telecommunication equipment manufacturers, research and design institutes, software developers and other interested stakeholders of the ITU Member States, Sector Members and Associates.

[09:35 - 10:50] Session 1: CYBERSECURITY TRENDS AND UPDATES TO NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY STRATEGIES AND POLICIES

Cybersecurity is an urgent and essential issue for all organisations worldwide. One of the key challenges that countries and companies are faced with is keeping up with the latest trends and respond with appropriate cybersecurity-related actions. ITU has discussed the importance of developing national cybersecurity strategies and policies, and has shared best practices for implementation. The objective of this session is to share updates on what is happening in the cybersecurity environment and exchange considerations that enable new elements to be reflected in related strategies and policies.

[11:20 - 12:25] Session 2 (panel discussion): Emerging issues related to cybersecurity

Following Session 1, the panel extends the discussion to the requirements and issues that stakeholders face in such complex environments. The objective of this session is to identify new issues and requirements and to discuss how stakeholders in various sectors can collaborate to contribute effectively to implement national policies and strategies. Views and opinions raised in this session will be further considered in future discussions related to ITU-D SG2 Question 3/2.
